“Stand In the Gap!”

As I reflect on my day, all I can think about is all of the people whom I have witnessed today that are hurting.

I’ve listened to a man scream and yell at healthcare workers trying to help him. As his mental condition or his mental hurt was spilling over on the very people who were trying to help him.

I’ve witnessed a patient who was hurting so bad physically and emotionally that she’d give anything for just a small amount of relief.

I watched several strong healthcare providers wilt today by all the pressures and constraints of the profession that’s actually a calling. (Side note- When you care for those in pain, you take on their pain. And although don’t feel it as they feel it physically- YOU still feel it! And that’s why it’s a calling!!)

The last impression on my heart for the day was watching a small boy weep over the loss of his grandfather this evening. We got on the elevator, and this small boy through his tears kept saying to his mama, “I just want my papa!” His mother tried to console him as best as she could explaining, “Papa is in heaven! He’s fishing and having a great time.” I held back tears for complete strangers.

For every hurt I witnessed today was for people I had never really met. Their hurts reminded me of the hurts of those that I do know.

I fight my own demons every day. I am far from perfect, but I have a heart for people. I complain about things that really won’t matter in 5 years or sometimes in the next 5 minutes. And then God reminds me, that I actually have NOTHING to complain about. And even more than that- if while I have NOTHING to complain about, am I standing in the Gap for those who do?? Am I standing in the gap for those who are hurting? Whether it’s mentally, physically, or emotionally- there are people in your life (some closer than you think) who are hurting to the depths of their soul. STAND IN THEIR GAP!!! Pray for them as fiercely and as earnestly as you would for yourself, or even more so- for your child. You could be that someone’s only hope from falling in the gap.
