They say “Those worship songs hit differently when you’ve been through a thing or two”.
How true is that? I love worship songs. I love listening to the lyrics over and over- soaking up a new understanding each time.
I may do a series on worship songs- ya’ll will have to tell me what you think about that. 😉
Maverick City sings a song called, “The Story I’ll Tell”. The Story I’ll Tell (feat. Naomi Raine) – Maverick City Music | TRIBL Music – YouTube
We all have a story to tell. Many of us think our story is insignificant, or maybe we think it is not worthy of being told.
Often more times than not, we forget how powerful our stories can be in blessing others around us.
I used to wonder why I went through certain storms in life. Why was I chosen to live through such things that easily I could not have?
As I listen to this song, I am reminded that I have a story to tell. It’s not a story about me, but how God has worked through me over the years to show his strength in my weaknesses. To fulfill His promises to me.
We’ve all been in dark situations throughout life. Â It’s hard to see just what He is doing in the ruins of that moment. We feel as though everything is falling apart or possibly could. Â Our options seem few. We feel helpless and hopeless, and that we most certainly are- helpless and hopeless without the faith of knowing that God has our best interest at heart. The hour is dark And it’s hard to see What You are doin’ here in the ruins And where this will lead Oh, but I know That down through the years I’ll look on this moment and see Your hand on it And know You were here
And I’ll testify of the battles You’ve won How You were my portion when there wasn’t enough And I’ll testify of the seas that we’ve crossed The waters You parted, the waves that I’ve walked
Singing, oh-oh-oh, my God did not fail (Yeah) Oh-oh-oh, it’s the story I’ll tell Singing, oh-oh-oh, I know it is well Oh-oh-oh, it’s the story I’ll tell
Believing gets hard When options are few When I can’t see what You’re doin’, I know that You’re proving You’re the God who comes through Oh, but I know (Woo, yeah) That over the years I’ll look back on this moment and see Your hand on it And know You were here
And I’ll testify of the battles You’ve won, yeah-yeah How You were my portion when there wasn’t enough, oh I’ll testify of the seas that we’ve crossed, yes, I will The waters You parted, the waves that I’ve walked (Woo)
Singing, oh-oh-oh, my God did not fail Singing, oh-oh-oh, that’s the story I’ll tell, oh Oh-oh-oh, I know it is well, yeah Oh-oh-oh, it’s the story I’ll tell (Yeah, yeah, yeah)
And all that is left is highest praises, yeah, yeah So sing hallelujah to the Rock of Ages Come on, sing it, all that’s left All that is left is highest praises, so sing it, sing it So sing hallelujah to the Rock, to the Rock of Ages Oh, all that is left All that is left is highest praises, praises, sing (So sing hallelujah) To the Rock of Ages Sing it to the Rock, we’ll sing it to the Rock, oh, that’s right All that is left is highest praises, highest praises, sing it Sing hallelujah to the Rock, to the Rock of Ages
And I’ll testify of the battles You’ve won (Yeah) How You were my portion (Yeah) when there wasn’t enough, Provider And I’ll sing the song of the seas That we crossed (yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah) The waters You parted, the waves that I’ve walked (es)
Singing, oh-oh-oh, my God did not fail (yes, Lord) Never ever failed me Oh-oh-oh, it’s the story I’ll tell It’s my testimony Oh-oh-oh, I know it is well Oh-oh-oh, that’s the story I’ll tell
It’s the story I’ll tell It’s the story I’ll tell
As we sit in those dark moments, we must keep in mind that He is working. He is working all things out for our good. Knowing that no matter what the story looks like in this moment, we will be able to look back and see His hand on it and know He was with us all along.
We must tell our stories. Not to brag about ourselves or what we can accomplish in our strengths, but to give glory where it is most definitely due. One of my most favorite parts of this song is,
And I’ll testify of the battles You’ve won How You were my portion when there wasn’t enough And I’ll testify of the seas that we’ve crossed The waters You parted, the waves that I’ve walked
- He wins the battles.
- He is enough when our portions are not.
- He will cross every sea with you.
- He will part the waters and give you the power to walk on waves.
Almost all of my most meaningful stories started dark, unsure, uneasy, upsetting, unsettling, and undesired. Looking back on them now, I wouldn’t trade those trying moments for anything in this world. It was during those moments that I was able to witness the sovereignty and mercy and grace and power of our Savior.
Without those moments, I would have missed out on feeling the overwhelming love and peace that only God can give us.
Tell your story!!! Don’t be ashamed of it! Don’t forget that where you’ve come from is what has shaped you into who you are today.
Tell your story, but don’t forget to tell who brought you out of that darkness back into light.
